Texas is not Colorado or California. There’s no recreational market here, and nobody mails you a card. Instead, Texas runs a medical marijuana program called the Compassionate Use Program, or TCUP for short.
Here’s how it works in plain terms. A qualified Texas physician evaluates you and, if you meet the criteria, prescribes low-THC cannabis. Your physician prescription is then registered in the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas, which goes by CURT. That registry entry is what lets you purchase cannabis from a state-licensed dispensary.
The program shifted on September 1, 2025, when House Bill 46 took effect. It widened the qualifying conditions list, adding chronic pain, traumatic brain injury, Crohn’s disease, terminal illness, and hospice and palliative care. If you checked your eligibility years ago and heard no, it’s worth another look. The list of conditions is broader now than it’s ever been.
Plano sits at the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, which means you’re not limited to a single clinic on the edge of town. Because our evaluations run by secure video, you get care from a certified physician without fighting traffic on the Dallas North Tollway or rearranging your workday. North Texas patients use DocMJ for the same reason they use telemedicine for anything else: the doctor comes to you.
