Why Understanding Georgia’s Separate Costs Matters

Georgia does not collect the entire cost of the medical cannabis process in one payment. You pay DocMJ for the physician evaluation, then pay the Georgia Department of Public Health separately for the state-issued Medical Cannabis card.

Each charge covers a different part of the process. The evaluation fee pays for medical care and the physician’s certification decision. The state fee pays for the card issued after your information has been entered into the Medical Cannabis Patient Registry and verified by DPH.

Knowing this difference helps you avoid mistaking an appointment price for the complete cost. It also makes clear that paying for an evaluation does not guarantee certification or include the state card.

What the DocMJ Georgia Evaluation Service Includes

DocMJ provides Georgia medical cannabis evaluations through telemedicine. During your appointment, a physician reviews your medical history, current condition, symptoms, medications, and available documentation to determine whether certification is medically appropriate.

Georgia requires physicians to assess the patient’s history and condition before completing an annual Medical Cannabis Certification. Physicians are not required to certify every patient, and the decision remains based on the doctor’s medical judgment.

If you qualify, the physician completes the certification and submits the required patient and caregiver information to Georgia’s Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. The DocMJ service does not issue the state card, include products from a licensed dispensary, or replace the separate DPH payment process.

Evaluation Fee (Clinic)

DocMJ’s standard Georgia price is $139 for the annual physician evaluation and certification service, plus a one-time 2.9% processing fee. The fee covers the telemedicine visit, the physician’s review, and registry submission when the physician determines that you qualify.

The clinic fee does not include Georgia’s state card charge or the cost of medical cannabis products purchased later from an authorized seller.

DocMJ offers a money-back guarantee for patients who complete the evaluation but do not receive a recommendation. The guarantee reduces the financial risk of scheduling when you are uncertain about eligibility, but it does not influence the physician’s medical decision.

State Registry Card Fee

The Georgia Department of Public Health charges $30 for each Medical Cannabis card. This fee is paid directly to the state and is separate from DocMJ’s evaluation charge. Health insurance does not cover the state card fee.

Paying through DPH’s online portal adds a $3.75 service fee. Patients who cannot use the portal or do not have access to email may pay the $30 card fee by money order without the online service charge.

A caregiver who needs a card must pay a separate $30 fee. The same per-card rule applies when a patient has more than one registered caregiver.

Georgia’s Medical Cannabis card is valid for five years. However, patients must still receive physician certification annually to maintain access through the state program. The five-year card term does not replace the yearly medical review.

How the Georgia Payment and Certification Process Works

1. Book your evaluation.

Select a telemedicine appointment and pay DocMJ’s current evaluation price and processing fee. Review any promotional or payment-plan terms before completing checkout.

2. Meet with the physician.

Discuss your condition, symptoms, treatment history, medications, and relevant medical records. The physician reviews this information to decide whether you meet Georgia’s requirements.

3. Complete physician certification.

If certification is appropriate, the physician completes Georgia’s annual Medical Cannabis Certification and enters the required information into the state registry. Certification is an authorization under Georgia law, not a prescription.

4. Wait for DPH verification.

The Georgia Department of Public Health checks the submitted information for accuracy and completeness. Once verified, DPH sends payment instructions to the patient or caregiver.

5. Pay the card fee.

Submit the $30 card payment and any applicable online service fee directly to DPH. Payment must be completed within 60 days. After that period, the pending card may be cancelled, and the physician may need to reinstate it.

6. Receive your card.

DPH ships the card after processing the payment. The state advises allowing up to 10 business days, and someone must be available to sign for the delivery.

Limits, Responsibilities, and Realistic Expectations

Paying for a DocMJ evaluation does not guarantee certification. The physician must determine that you have a qualifying condition and that certification is appropriate based on your medical information.

DocMJ manages the appointment, physician evaluation, clinic pricing, and registry submission for patients who qualify. Georgia DPH manages the card fee, information verification, payment deadline, processing, and delivery.

Because the state controls the card process, DocMJ cannot waive the $30 fee or promise a specific DPH completion date. Missing or inaccurate information may also delay verification.

Patients should also plan for two different schedules. The physician certification must be completed annually, while the physical Medical Cannabis card remains valid for five years.

Why Choose DocMJ

DocMJ has provided physician-led medical cannabis evaluations since 2016 and has completed more than one million patient visits across the states it serves. That experience matters when you need clear answers about costs, documentation, eligibility, and the steps that follow your appointment.

Georgia evaluations are handled by appropriately licensed physicians. You receive a medical assessment based on your condition and history, not a transaction that promises automatic approval.

DocMJ also publishes its standard annual price, processing fee, current promotion, and qualification guarantee before patients schedule. Seeing those costs in advance makes it easier to compare the clinic charge with Georgia’s separate state fee.

For patients concerned about paying before they know whether they qualify, the published money-back guarantee provides added protection. Payment-plan availability may offer another way to manage the clinic cost, depending on the current terms.

The process is explained in plain language so first-time patients can understand what DocMJ handles, what the state requires, and what they may need to pay again in the future.

Real Care. Real Relief.
